Had a business trip in Houston a couple of weeks ago and I managed to catch this puppy on my day off.  21.5" and almost 9 lbs.  It's a sheepshead and I caught 2 of them.  The other was smaller, about 16".  I also was able to catch a baby hammerhead.  It was 22" long and the limit was 24" to keep it.  Didn't manage to get a picture of it though.

Cool!!

I'm guessing it's a saltwater version of our freshwater drum? I know the freshwater drum is also many-a-times called sheephead in the Great Lakes region.

Oh man!! I can't wait until summer. My dad is gonna be in H-town (my ex living place) and we go down to Rockport, byu Coprus. Nice drum. If you want a fight go for redfish...in the drum family I think. Also it's kinda interesting the speckled, sand, and i think its silver trout are all in the drum family too when it comes to saltwater. The dsand and silver don't get big at all but the speckled trout are a blast. Sorry...your post reminds me of the old days...awww...

Did you see anyone catch a sting ray? Now that is something to watch. Those things are impossible to get up. Most of teh time teh fisherman ends up cutting the line.
yup, but it was a small one. maybe 9 or 10" not including the tail. we saw a whole school of manta rays, like 70 or 80 just swimming slowly under the pier. it was absolutely amazing.

i also set up one of my rods with a big ol' hook and a whole bait fish. it was about a 13" baitfish. anyways, i threw that out there while i was fishing with another rod and a few hours later the rod it was on fell over onto the pier. it made me jump and i looked at the guy next to me with that look of "why did you kick my rod over?" He looked at me with that look of "I didn't touch your rod bro!" and I grabbed it up, set the hook(i guess) and reeled it in. This fish had a huge chunk of meat missing from the side of it's body. probably about a 6" diameter bite. I was like wow. It had to of been a shark of some sort. Guess it didn't want any more considering how nasty the fish was though. Pretty funny.
