Ken and or Don, have either of you considered putting on a tournament within this group? last time I checked there was 45 + or - members. We could all throw in a fee. Of course we all know I dont have a boat but I could figure something out. This group would probably have a great time meeting. There could be multiple catigories, Most fish, Biggest, Most species, you name it. Does anyone else think this would work? Maybe 1 or 2 a year, Even make it a yearly thing......Just a thought

What an outstanding idea!

I just emailed Dan the other saying that I want to try and meet as many members in this group as possible; talk about serendipity.

Don, if a prized event is out of the question or too complicated to set-up for the short term, consider a get-together for a barbecue/day of fishing.

Perhaps we can set a date for some Saturday, to meet at some lake, and those of us with boats can bring them, to team up with the folks that don't have them; partner up and wet some lines.

You know, I'd even be willing to volunteer and help set it up.  It just seems like we have an awesome group of members, and get together wouldn't be a bad idea.

Give it some thought.

organizing a tournament is a lot of work, plus to be technically legal I think you need to apply to DOW for some special permit. An informal picnic would probably be a better place to start. Attendees throw in a few bucks to rent a shelter at a lake and by some staples. everyone bring a dish to pass.

20 or 30 boats lined up on the shore at dinner time could be fun. But don't volunteer me to be in charge, i suck at those things.

Suggestion, if someone wants to organize it I suggest before Memorial Day, unless its at a lake prohibits skiing and jet skis.

I have been in charge of planning the Western Get-Together for Walleye Central now for six years. This year it is the weekend of August 19-21 at Glendo Res. I always get about 40 hardcore walleye anglers to attend each year. It is not a tournament, but we do wager on the biggest fish. It is a blast and very informative for anyone just getting started with walleye fishing! We also have a big fish fry the last night and everyone gets to meet everyone else. You can go to walleye Central an actually see the archived pictures from each of the last four years!

It would be fun to see this site do the same thing!

I think a get together would be a better idea then a tournament, in that if they put alot of effort in setting it up and getting everything squared away. What happens if 5 people show up they are SOL. On the ocean boats I'd go on when I lived in NC we'd all pitch 10$+ into a hat and call the rules "biggest fish, most fish, most species, target species, or whatever" then who ever won took the pot. This would probably be a better method for a first time get together. If the get together has a good turnout then maybe a tournament the next time.

A get together sounds like a great idea, we could do a big fish pot or something like that to add some friendly competition to the mix! I'll think about locations and let you guys know what I come up with! If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears! ;D
