From the DOW:

? Chatfield Reservoir - Catfish being caught near the inlets on stinkbaits and shrimp. Walleyes are biting on bottom bouncers rigged with crawlers or leeches 12-20 feet deep. Smallmouth bass are active in Massey Draw and along the dam.

Who in the world is reporting this? I got the skunk recently, sounds like everyone else is too...

You know how it goes.....

The one guy who catches 1 walleye on a bottom bouncer reports, then the guy who catches 1 catfish reports, and finally the guy who catches 1 smallie in Massy Draw (James  :D) reports... That makes up a report!

As for the rest, they don't report and that will lead to the assumption that those folks are catching too, but just didn't report.

My guess....

Actually, I'd be interested in what they use to write these reports if anyone knows. As I mentioned in a previous post, it can't be an easy job as many things must slip through the cracks or not be reported...
The funny thing is yesterday at work one of the guys was looking at the paper and saw the section with the fishing report and pointed it out to me. I said, "let me guess walleye are biting on bottom bouncers in 15-20 feet of water?" He said "yeah, how did you know?"

Its easy being psychic when nothing has changed for the last 3 weeks.

The actual report for Chatfield is.

Slow, for all species.
Some smallmouth being taking trolling and casting minnow imitations in 10 feet of water or less.
Walleye deep and very few being caught on anything, including leeches.
Some bluegill being taken in 20-26 feet of water using a piece of worm or crawler on a size 10 bleeding hook just off the bottom. best spots are where the depth rapidly changes.

These are the facts from a regular.

I'd have to agree with that. There has been a few times where park rangers would actually come around asking us how we did at the eastern plains reservoirs to gather info for a report. One of the park rangers at John Martin was actually excited to see us catch a nice load of crappies in like 2003. He said it was very nice of us to actually tell him how we did. He even asked if we would mind telling him what we caught them crappies on. That tells me, they don't too often get the chance to get full or detailed reports from anglers that come and go through those gates.

Just like Jackson earlier this year, the guy actually had a look at our Rat-L-Trap colors because he said it's tough to just get fish counts for a report. They're usually very polite when they ask for details though. It usually starts off with, "Would ya mind if I ask what kind of lure......?"

I usually don't mind telling if it's just something real simple that any joe schmoe angler can do. If it's one of those "dance around the campfire while waiving rods to the fish gods" secrets, then I might not tell.  ;)

That's what I see too. It would be nice of them to at least say something like, "We haven't had any reports in the last so & so weeks..."

They've had basically the same report for alot of the lakes I fish for 2 months now. I look at these things out of curiosity but I don't put much stock in them.

The reports will stop the week after Labor Day and as many of the hardcore know-some of the best fishing is fall til ice-up. I noticed last year the final report talks in general about the fall fishing for each body of water.
I sent one in saying I caught a small mouth in Horsetooth using pizza. I wonder if they will post it.

Hahaha....

Their boss might read that part and know that they are not doing their job.. :D

JK.
LOL!!
Well.... As long as it's not Jeff Butler who's not doing his job. He was my hero when I was like 13 or 14. I always wanted his job. Have y'all ever called the hotline... Ooh, I still have the numbers memorized.. 303-291-7538 for the SE region and 303-291-7536 for NE region.. Anyhow, I used to always call that line to listen to the reports and think to myself, "Man, he gets paid bank just for that? I'm going to take that job when I grow up!"

I still remember how he records the reports, "Thiiiiiiiiiiiis is Jeff Butler with the Division of Wildlife fishing report for the Southeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeast reeeeegionnnnnnnn for the weakend of May 24th through the 25th " then a split second pause, " Antero reservoir, water levels are high, yada yada yada yada..." and he goes on spittin two hundred seventy somethin' words per minute without stopping for a breath. He still does it too. Watch out Jeff, I'm comin to get your job! Oh yeah, but I can't leave my current job yet. I'm a moderator for Colorado Fisherman  ;)

WHAT?!  you are getting paid?  I need to have a talk with Ken!

I suppose everyone but me is getting paid too.

Dan
no he just means that if he got another job they wouldnt let him surf the site and he wouldnt be able to fufill his duties as a Mod i wouldnt want to leave a job like that either
this site is way better than the published fishing report, of course you always have the ones that when you ask how the fishing is someone always seems to reply with what ya just read in the paper or fishing and hunting news..
The reports are just seldom accurate from my experience.
I really honestly think they put very little effort into it and the reports are often the same during one month in one year and same for that month the next year.
Also I think its all a ploy to get people to come. I have found them saying fishing is slow when its great.
Zias-What toppings on that pizza? I'm guessing anchovies. :)
