Jay - It absolutely depends on weather and the elevation of the lake. Spinney Mountain generally opens around the first week of April, with higher elevation lakes and reservoirs will be ice free shortly thereafter. I fish a small lake in the spring that is approximately 8,000 feet, but I know the Ice is off when the leaves start appearing on the Aspens that are at that elevation. It is hard to tell unless someone tells you the ice is off or you keep driving by a certain reservoir to check. Things really start thawing out in April. Ice out is one of the best times to bag a trophy. It's not that far away.
