There is no bigger Pike fan than myself!!!!! But I agreed with and participated in the killing of small Pike at Spinney. They had decimated the trout fishery and eaten everything else in site. I caught a 24" Pike that weighed about a pound. It was a swimming skeleton. At one point there was 10,000 Pike in that 2500 acre lake

Switching to the 15" stockers was a great idea and is working! It was the small to medium sized Pike that were eating all the fingerlings. The DOW effectively starved them out with that strategy. I caught a half dozen trout in the 5-7 lb range last fall and lost a couple of huge fish. There are still lots of big Pike in there!!!!!

As a matter of fact, I keep hearing about people catching small Pike this year? Just goes to show you can't fish out a Pike population even when you try! What is this new year class of Pike going to eat there? Insects?

Pike in the 20-27 inch range are excellent eating! If you catch bigger Pike you can let them go. I for one would had to of seen the 50" story to believe it?

I'm sorry but I have been to TU meetings and have heard in most every meeting this anti pike diatribe. To say they aren't against pike and other things, such as bait fishing, is naiive.
And Spinney is the ONLY place in the state that pike have hurt fishing. However, they were NOT the main reason the trout fishing went south. They were a factor, but the biggest factor was LACK OF TROUT AVAILABLE FOR STOCKING. Nowadays, more trout are available for stocking again. Pike were a convienient scapegoat for all the problems.

And epic, not all lakes being no bag limit for pike? In all those lakes you mentioned, there IS no bag limit for pike under 34". That is hardly right.
As for what is happening at 11 - mile, the trout fishing used to be better 15 years ago. And guess what, THERE WERE MORE PIKE IN THE LAKE THEN.

the trout fishing used to be better 15 years ago when there were more pike
...15 years ago we had half as many people fishing...advanced techniques...the boom in fly fishing...the boom in ice fishing...combined with more people fishing...of course the fishing was better at eleven mile 15 years ago...attributing it for or against pike has very little to do with it...
