Last year, I seen some dudes fishing next to the dog beach in waders with fly rods. They were havin' a ball and made us quite jealous. They were using some streamers(?).

Anyhow, it was around late May. Give it a try, dude.

the most popular wiper fly is the Clouser Minnow...look it up online, its a pretty easy fly to tie. basically just white bucktail and dumb bell eyes, along with another color on top...chartruese is popular...i fish a size 4 or 6 usually. (the shad at union arent real big...) it has good up/down action and can be retrieved fast or slow---and when they hit it look out, its usually pretty hard. tie this onto a 9 ft leader that tapers to 3 x, and use at least 8 lb tippet or you might lose some fish.

wipers will pretty much hit anything though, depending on thier mood i discovered...i even caught them on liver while catfishing. yeah, liver...

this one hit a clouser....april was the month, i think...

Anything that imitates a shad or bait fish. I tie a 2 1/2 strip of grey fur on a size 6 long shank streamer hook and put some tinsel over the top, works well. Also try zonkers and white wollybuggers.

Thats a good durable fly, i use something like that for night fishing for browns...a size 6 with a natural or black rabbit strip and some tinsel....also a small rattle tied into the body. looks great in the water...and lasts forever with superglue over the thread....
