I've been a big believer in rod floats for many years. Here's another simple fix that can save $500-$1,000.

Over the years I have tried to teach several cameras and cell phones how to swim.......none of them did very well.

Since I've used my cell phone for pictures the past several years I've found placing a floating case on the phone keeps me from losing it if it falls overboard. I have dropped my phone in the water at least once a year while trying to take a fish picture while on the pontoon.
These cases are now finally being manufactured by a number of reputable firms and they work.
These fit snugly on the phone and are not the plastic bag type things that don't work well and are cumbersome to use.
Also, many phone insurance policies won't replace a lost phone.
Most of the modern smart phones are "watertight" for about an hour at 3' deep, if your phone ends up in the lake or river, reach down, pick it up, and wipe it off. Much better than watching it sink to the bottom.

Let’s see what makes sense $6.00 for a floating case or $600.00 for a new phone, seems like a no-brained to me, also the case helps if you just drop your phone wherever you might be.

Just saying........all of my rods have floats on them. I agree, if your fishing one rod be it spin or fly and your paying attention you probably will never need a float. I fish primarily on the South Park lakes and only use artificial baits, I fish about 125-150 trips a year and unless it’s “Going off” I always have two rods in the water, sometimes two long rods and sometimes a long and a spin outfit. You know these lakes well and I’m sure you know folks who’ve fed their outfits to the lake. Not worth taking a chance for the $3.00 price of a rod float IMHO.

Hahaha. Try to make a Chinese phone swim and let me know how it went. They are breaking down anyway without much try so imagine dumping one, not in a lake or the sea but just your sink. It's actually pathetic how much the quality of the Huawei phones has diminished as they use cheaper hardware than they used to do in the past.
