I learned that one a while back at Bill's shop before it closed down. It's one of my favorite flies, and I cant believe I forgot to mention that I have plenty of them

In my first post I said I was looking for mayfly, midge, and caddis emergers, but if you want me to be more specific, I can. I don't have any pmd or green drake emergers, and only a few midge emergers.

 

I'm kinda partial to a loop wing emerger for bwo's.

Sorry it takes me so long to respond...work, 4 year old, etc.
I don't follow any pattern that I know of, but here's what I use.
On a Tiemco 2487 or 2488 curved hook. I use a couple of crystal flash strands for a tail, stripped peacock herl for the body, and the fuzzy stuff at the base of a saddle hackle feather for the loop wing. It's a real simple one to tie. I have a few 18's, but most of 'em are 20's and 22's with a few 24's for the heck of it.

 

IMO you should pick up Modern Midges by Rick Talahashi. There is a whole section dedicated to emerges. Yes the book is only for midges, but most patterns can be used for other insects, with a tweak of color, size, & what not

 

OK, so I have a really stupid question. I know what the difference is between a nymph and emerger from a bio standpoint (I think). But from a tying point of view, what's different about an emerger pattern?

Emergers are fatter than nymphs, because they have all their wings, legs, etc bundled together ready to pop. They usually have a little bit of wing just starting to escape, either a little stub, or some kind of loop.

Allot of emerges also have air trapped under there exoskeleton, this helps them to become more buoyant and they tend to appear shinny. This is why some patterns have flash in them.
