Was looking to buy an auger. How is the strikemaster mag 2000? is it a good auger?

maybe I should lean it out a little.  sound like a good idea Dan?
Before you do any carb ajustments, pull off your air filter to see if its clean and dry. If its dirty, wash it in soap and water, and let it dry completely. If its not dirty, and you are proficient at tinkering with small engines, then go for the carb ajustments. I just don't want you to blow your engine, from a wrong fuel-air mixture. Good luck,

I have a strikemaster mag 2000 that I have been using for about 10 years now. Overall its been a good auger that has drilled lots of holes.

One problem with mine is that it doesn't like to be laid down in the snow. There is a slide attached to the throttle cable under the carberator that will freeze and I broke one cable before I understood the problem. I've also had the butterfly freeze closed. It works fine if I don't lay it down.

I think the newer models have linkage instead of a cable for the throttle. I wouldn't buy another one with a cable, but I would buy another if it had the linkage.

Thankls for the info. Does the single blade make any difference?

I've owned a Mag 2000 for over ten years and its has made swiss cheese out of many lakes over the years. I've never broken a cable, but I have had it freeze up on me before. The freeze up was due to blowing snow and extremely cold temperatures at Taylor Reservoir.

When I first saw the single blade after taking it out of the box I had doubts about its ability to cut. These doubts soon faded the first time I drilled a hole. Still cuts just as well today.

There are other models which strikemaster now offers, but in my opinion you couldn't go wrong with the Mag 2000. Just depends on how much your willing to spend or can afford.

I've heard good reports about Jiffy's as well but never had the privilege of using one. Jamie Hughes swears by Jiffy.
