Like many of you out there tonight I took advantage of the downpore and collected A LOT of nightcrawlers. Now the question is how do I keep them alive for a long while? I usualy just put them into old worm containers and store them in the fridge and they end up dying in 3 to 4 weeks. Any tips on how keep them around for a while?

I use the plastic folgers coffee containers. Fill them about 3/4 full with worm bedding and add about
8 dozen crawlers to each container. Be sure to put a few small holes in the lid for ventilation. Also,
I put a small amount of corn meal in each container every 3-4 days. Seems to keep them healthy. Have a small fridge in the garage that holds a half dozen containers.

Depends on how many and how long I think.

I've read that you can sue dirt with newspaper, compost, bedding, grass, etc. Just use whatever you have available.

I've also heard of sprinkling coffee grounds for them too eat. Dunno, I'll probably use all the one's I caught this weekend, but if I catch more I plan on making a larger area for them.

I just read that the best things to feed them (if you don't buy the actual worm food from a feed store) are coffee grounds and oatmeal. Who knew worms loved breakfast so much?

Sounds really nice Jeff.... coffee ground coated worms..... on MY NEW CARPET ;D
if you wash them off when you take them out of the bedding and put enough for the day on a bed of crushed ice they are very clean

I've seen coffee scented/flavored sort plastics....I wonder if feeding the worms coffee grounds makes them more effective? I might try feeding some of them some garlic...
if you feed them garlic oil it will kill them in a couple of days, just put it in your bait box the night before you go and dispose of any that are left after you fish, i havn't found the garlic oil to help
